Watched ‘In Good Company’.
Nothing special about the movie. But towards the end of the movie, a guy said something like ‘Timing is the most important thing in life’.
That, really was the only thing that this movie made me think about.
We all live our lifes, and yours’ different from mine. Things happen to us, and i seperate them into ‘big’ things and ‘small’ things. Big things are those which happen to a few of us. Like getting run over by a car, not all of us would have such experience in our lives. Smalls things are the things which happen to all of us. Like we all fall in love, we all go to school, we all have sex. These are the things that would probably happen to all of us.
But then, these smalls things, they happen in different time of our lives. Timing. You may be 13 when you first fall in love. For me it may be 20. OK, now, the timing is very important. I can first fall love 2 weeks before my a-level exam, or I may meet you after I’ve got 6 As. That’s very different. I can lose my job when I’m still young and i can find another job. Or i can lose it while i’m old and married and my children are going to Uni.
I am not giving good examples here, but u know what i mean. right now i’m thinking about this. i’m thinking, if these things that happened to me in my life MUST happen, it’s inevitable, then, would my life be better if i can re-arrange them? Can I not meet Suxanna until i am form 4? Can I go study abroad in form 1 instead of after CE exams? Would things be better? Would I be a better person?
These ideas drive me a little bit crazy. I always think, maybe things have been happening in the wrong ‘timing’, therefore my life is so fucked up. I guess we human are just stupid (ok maybe just me). We’ve been through our lives, and we think back and try to figure out what we could change to make our lives better. I shouldn’t have killed somebody. I shouldn’t have chosen Economics. I shouldn’t have given up basketball. Fuck it. If we knew what would happen, we wouldn’t end up like this. Everyone would have a perfect life.
Back to the movies, afterall it’s movies that inspired me. Rememer Sliding Doors.

Movie is split into 2. The life which Gwyneth Paltrow has got onto the train and the life which she hasn’t. The life which she found out his boyfriend was sleeping with another woman and the life which she doesn’t. 2 lives are totally different. Both lives ended badly. Just one ends worse than the other. Can we judge which one is better for her?
Movies give us the space to imagine what would it be like if we can change our lives and start is all over again. remember Donnie Darko and Butterfly Effect.

what happen if we can start over again, and change our lives? In both movies we’re told that no matter how we struggle, we still wouldn’t be able to change our tragic fate. no matter how hard we try, somebody’s gonna die, somebody’s gonna get hurt. No matter how hard we try, there will still be some bads in our lives. we can’t have everything perfect. we gain this, we lose something else.
i guess we’re just greedy. we just want more. we just think that if we did better, if we chose the alternative route, our lives would be better. actually we duno. we think if we did better our lives would be better now. but maybe not, some new surprising shit may come into our lives and fuck us up again.
i always get this comment on my report card when i was in st. paul’s co-ed: could do better, still got rooms for improvement. i always hate this comment. what the fuck does that mean? do better? what do u mean better? how? what could i have done to make myself better? i dun need u to tell me if i study harder, i would get a higher mark. i dun need u to tell me that if i spend less time on video games and movies, i would get a higher grade. but this is me! if i dun get 60 marks, it wouldn’t make the person who got 90 marks looks good. if everyone improves until they all get 100 marks, then no one is better than the others. revision never ends. there are always more to revise. so how much is enough?
we dun understand life. no one does. or maybe i’m just giving myself excuses that i have never been top student in class. but anyway. we all work hard everyday to improve our lives. we do it, as long as we believe that it’s good for us. actually we never know what’s good for us. so we often fuck it up.
well. so let’s forget the past. let’s not worry how we could have improved our lives. let’s not think about what we could have done instead. yeah we know we are all losers, but let’s try to enjoy life anyway.
After the movie today, i played MJ in sir charles. if we were playing 1 penny, i could have won like 15 pounds. haha…. and Marcus, i got the dvd already, haven’t watched it yet tho. but i feel that u have sort of ruined it already, coz i’ll keep thinking about how ‘the type i typed’ would like this movie. never try this director since i thought he makes scary stuffs. like the ‘audition’. anyway i was just joking when i said u ruined my movie. i’ll watch it tonight probably.
